Community Guidelines

LeasedUp works because verified content is honest, specific, and fair. These are the standards we ask every reviewer, reference writer, and landlord to meet.

Last updated: June 2026

Be honest

Write only about experiences you actually had. Don't fabricate, exaggerate, or repeat unverified rumors. If you didn't live there as a verified tenant, or didn't have a verified landlord relationship with the tenant, don't submit.

If something changed during your tenancy — a problem was eventually fixed, communication improved, the landlord delivered on promises — note that. A balanced review is more useful than a one-sided one.

Be specific

Future readers benefit from concrete information. “Leaks went unfixed for three months” is more useful than “bad maintenance.” “Returned the full deposit within two weeks” is more useful than “fair landlord.”

Keep it about the experience, not the person. Skip personal insults, characterizations of motives, or sweeping judgments about anyone's character.

Be fair

Reviews and references are sealed soon after submission. That gives both sides confidence in the public record. It also means you should be confident in what you write before you submit it. Take a beat. Re-read it. Submit only when you're sure.

Tenants decide which verified tenancy references by landlord appear on their resume. Landlords can reply once to any public review. Both mechanisms exist so that the published record reflects considered, on-record speech — not heat-of-the-moment venting.

What's not allowed

Harassment, threats, doxxing, or attempts to identify or intimidate other users. Discriminatory content targeting any protected class. False allegations of crimes. Content that violates fair-housing laws or anti-discrimination laws.

Promotional content, off-topic spam, and links to external services unrelated to the tenancy or property under review.

Coordinated content (multiple accounts writing the same review or reference, reviews exchanged for compensation, content written by anyone other than the verified user).

Moderation

Every reference comment and every review free-text field is screened by automated content moderation before being written to our database. Flagged submissions are surfaced to the writer with a locked-copy rejection message — we tell the user something needs to change, never what specifically, and never preserve the rejected text.

We do not interpret who is right in a dispute, and we do not edit content for tone. We remove content only for clear violations of these guidelines.

Reporting

If you see content you believe violates these guidelines, email support@leasedup.co with the URL and a brief description. We review every report and take action when warranted.

Consequences

We may remove individual reviews, references, or replies that violate these guidelines. Repeated or serious violations can result in account suspension or termination. Sealed content that we remove leaves the verification record intact; the public-facing entry is replaced with a notice indicating removal.

Why this matters

Rental decisions are high-stakes. Honest, specific, verifiable information protects tenants from predatory landlords and protects landlords from being defamed. These standards are the price of admission for a record people can actually trust.
